Foundation for Owner-Built Home
A builder in North Carolina is offering several different packages for owner builders to choose from when building their new home. Hester Homes has a division called “Build a Little” that allows customers to take on some of the general contractor tasks. Essentially, each customer can choose a level of involvement based on their experience and time to devote to the project. Then, Hester Homes fills in the rest of the work required. Similar to my experience, “Build a Little” has clients in the $200k range all the way up to the million dollar mark.
So, Hester Homes is performing the role of the builder consultant where they fill in wherever you as the owner-builder don’t have the skill, desire, or time. I commend Hester Homes for coming up with this innovative idea. Owner builders are already approaching builders for this type of relationship so why not be proactive and offer it to everyone?
